Stocking Your Pantry for Asian Cooking


If you love to cook a variety of different cuisines Asian cooking might be one that you should consider adding to your list of cuisines. If you are not sure of the kinds of items that you should have on hand for whenever you decide to try a new Asian dish, this guide will help you stock up your pantry so you will always have basic items that are used in this kind of cooking.

You should always make sure to have a lot of Asian short grain or Thai jasmine rice as well as egg noodles or dry rice noodles on hand. Most Asian recipes always have a filling starch included in them and these are the most commonly used ones.

You also need to stock up on a variety of different kinds of sauces like soy sauce, tamari, which is a Japanese soy sauce, oyster sauce, chili garlic sauce, hoisin sauce and a black bean sauce. These are often used for marinades and stir fries.

When it comes to Southeast Asian recipes you are going to want some red or green curry pastes, some coconut milk as well as some fish sauce to have readily at hand when cooking.

For serving with your Asian meals make sure to have a good assortment of different Asian teas on hand like some green tea, plain black tea and oolong. These all are great teas to serve during your meals as well as after the meal is done.

Don't forget to make sure to have cornstarch on hand at all times. This is often the ingredient that is called for to thicken sauces and to hold the items together in your wontons and dim sum.

To cook all of your different recipes you are going to want to buy a wok and other utensils that are often used when cooking the different Asian foods like a bamboo steamer, a cleaver and a rice cooker.
